I’m a wife, mom, and nurse. I’ve always loved being active and eating healthy.
I hit my 40s and suddenly I was always tired. I gained 10 lbs in my abdomen overnight without changing my diet or exercise routine. I was anxious and in a constant brain fog. I was frequently in a bad mood. I couldn’t be present with my family or my patients at work. I knew this couldn’t be my new “norm” and things had to change. I saw my doctor and was told to eat less and move more. My doctor offered me medications for my symptoms but not solutions and she never mentioned perimenopause or hormone changes.
I didn’t like what I saw in the mirror. My face was puffy, my body was bloated and all my pants were too tight to button. I felt like a failure. Did I just not have the willpower to eat even less than I was already eating and take even more fitness classes?
I wanted to give up but I’m a fighter. I knew I could not feel this low energy for the rest of my life. My family and my patients deserved better. I deserved better! So I did what nurses do best, I began to research how to heal my body. I read every book and study I could find on perimenopause and hormone changes in midlife. I incorporated what I learned into my everyday life and saw my body begin to change. My inflammation decreased and my bloating was gone. I lost the stubborn belly fat without medications or fad dieting.
